Digital Inclusion & Innovation Program

Generation Z, has become one of the most powerful youth generations since the Nazis and the secret to their power lies in the pad of their thumb and the click of their fingers. In 2020 the death of George Floyd sparked protests across more than 60 countries on all six continents – organised through the use of social media. Technology is this generation’s weapon. In 2010 hashtags became a mode of activism; #savetheplanet, #BLM, and #MeToo. A girl in the mitaa of Nairobi has more in common with a Japanese girl living in a minka than ever before. During the COVID lockdowns students no longer made paper posters but power points, flipping through textbooks became archaic, now we swipe. The WorldWideWeb is the future of the World, of this generation, of Kenya and her children, and it cannot be ignored.

We live in an age where one’s voice and identity are highly intertwined with their digital footprint. Job applications, school applications, resumes and CVs, portfolios and personal brands crafted online. At Resilient Woman Africa part of our mission is to build up children’s education so they can overcome the hurdles that keep them disadvantaged; through awareness creation, training and mentorship through partnerships and collaborations. However, without equipping them with basic digital skills it is like trying to build a fire without wood. Digital skills are crucial to their development.

The Digital Inclusion and Innovation program targets children from marginalized communities who have limited access to the internet and computers. The program works to expose these children to digital skills enabling them to create more opportunities for themselves and their communities. The goal is to equip children with basic digital and coding skills to harness their creativity and enthusiasm in tech. Join us in celebrating the first cohort consisting 26 boys and 11 boys aged between ages 10-19 who are all very excited to interact with computers, tablets, robots and games with support of expert trainers in basic digital skills and coding. We will keep you posted on what is happening in the multweek digital program.
