What we do..

What we do

In the implementation of all our programs, our end goal is to Build More Resilient communities

An interaction with imprisoned women at Lang’ata Women’s Prison between the years 2013 and 2014 and later, with girls at Kamae juvenile detention revealed life’s circumstances and experiences that led the women and girls to prison. These experiences are not unique to women in prison or girls in juvenile detention but also to women and girls across the board. For example, adverse childhood experiences e.g. loss of loved ones, separation of parents, abuse and neglect These childhood circumstances and experiences render them vulnerable and expose them to unfavorable and risky behaviors that would lead them to prison. Furthermore, there are women and girls suffer the effects of harmful cultural practices like female genital mutilation, early marriages and societal norms, attitudes and socio-economic challenges like domestic violence, inability to make decisions at the household level, the burden of care and unpaid work that keep them perpetually and disadvantaged.

Older women suffer the burden of cultural norms and inability to make decisions at the family level in addition to the burden of care and involvement in unpaid work. These barriers cause women and girls to lag in social economic development. Resilient Woman’s mandate is to create programs that remove barriers that put women and girls at a disadvantage in perpetuity. On the 24th of May the year 2014, Resilient Woman was formed by bringing a group of like-minded passionate individuals, who were also the initial board members. Two years later ‘Resilient Woman’ was registered under the CBO Act. RW has since been helping the women, girls, r children and their communities to overcome the above barriers and mitigate the impact of the harmful cultural norms, social economic challenges and practices that stand in the way of their progress. Resilient Woman is a non-profit and non-political entity registered in Kenya in 2016 under the Community Based Organization (CBO) Act.
